Al Souza
Recent Works

Culling materials from a world of excess, Al Souza creates dynamic compositions the eye compulsively traverses. The works in the exhibition include paintings composed of thousands of layered jigsaw puzzle pieces the artist has become nationally recognized for as well as his new variation, “Redux” puzzle paintings that are further layered with ribbons of acrylic paint. Adding to the exhibition will also be various paper collages hand-cut from comic books, sheet music and botanical prints.

In 2006, Al Souza was named “Texas Artist of the Year” by the Art League Houston. His work is represented in several major public collections such as; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Biblioteche Nationale, Paris, France; San Diego Museum of Art, La Jolla, CA; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA; Yale University of Art, New Haven, CT; Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, CT; Museum of Modern Art, Belgrade, Yugoslavia and Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Houston, TX. Al Souza lives and works in Houston, TX.

James Sullivan
Recent Works

In recent years Dallas artist James Sullivan has further pushed his exploration of materials. Straw and plaster figural sculptures, a constant in Sullivan's oeuvre, sit among rock forms cast in various metals. Large-scale drawings and prints echo both the figure and stone three-dimensional works. The work in the show, including the large cast iron rock forms, were originally modeled in a 3-D digital haptic modeling system. The iron was then cast at Mabry Foundry, Beaumont, Texas.  The smaller digital sculptures are
3-D Z-Corp prints made using the facilities of the Research Center for Advanced Manufacturing in the Lyle School of Engineering, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.

PROJECT ROOM

Brett Rees

The late astronomer Carl Sagan coined the saying: "We are all made of star stuff".   So quotes Denton, TX artist, Brett Rees in his recent artist statement. His watercolors and digital prints imagine a crystalline other world inhabited by ghost figures marching in lockstep and witches brewing cosmic substance.

Brett Rees earned a B.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of North Texas in Denton and recently showed in the 4th Annual Monster Show at DOMY Books in Austin & Houston, TX.
