Jules Buck Jones
For Jules Buck Jones second one-person exhibition at Conduit Gallery, the Austin artist draws inspiration for the drawings and sculpture directly from his 2009 residency in Everglades National Park in Florida’s southern swamp region. Jones spent his time in the park during the undisturbed off-season among the native alligators, crocodiles, sharks and Burmese pythons creating on-site drawings, taking field recordings of the wildlife that inhabit the area and searching nightly for the for the rare Florida panther.
The resulting body of work includes a series of large and small scale drawings, paper-mâché owl sculptures, 98 page book Everglades and an 11-track music CD that utilizes the field recordings intertwined with songs written and performed by Jones. The Everglades book, published by Austin’s Monofonus Press, will be available for purchase at the opening reception and through out the duration of the exhibition.
