Past is Prologue
Well known Santa Fe artist, Ted Larsen will use his inaugural exhibition at Conduit Gallery as a spring board for an aesthetic progression of his sculptural work. Typically employing salvage steel and mechanical by-products in his work, for the exhibition Past is Prologue Larsen is working with new materials allowing for a personal revisionist history while enabling the artist larger freedom to address formal concerns typical in painting, such as pictorial space and illusion. Three large freestanding sculptures also push the viewers’ perception of materiality, treated by the artist to look like construction paper, but are in fact made from steel and painted by the artist.
A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ted Larsen has shown nationally since earning a B.F.A. from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ in 1986. Exhibitions since 2007 include; Philadelphia, PA; New York, NY; Seattle, WA; Memphis, TN: Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA and Lincoln, MA.
