Still Life

Ted Larsen

Conduit Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of, Still Life, an exhibition of new sculptural works by Santa Fe based artist Ted Larsen.

Using salvage steel as a medium, the wall-mounted sculptural works in Still Life build relationships between each other and to the viewer are intended to begin a dialogue concerning: pattern recognition, formal aesthetic issues and organizational perception.

Correlations between the works develop through similar palette, use of negative space and mathematical sequencing i.e. curvilinear works develop through radial geometry. These connections emerge to the viewer on an intuitive level. Human perception and visual communication, uniquely human attributes with which Larsen is most concerned, plays out in the viewers experience of the installation: from seeing, one creates meaning which in turn leads to understanding.

A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ted Larsen has shown nationally since earning a B.F.A. from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ in 1986. Awards since 2008 include: the Surdna Foundation Educational Travel Grant, New York, NY; the 2011 Asilah Arts Festival, Asilah, Morocco, Edward F.
