Dallas Observer - Conduit Gallery - Best Art Gallery 2013
Dallas Observer | Oct 1, 2013
New galleries are emerging all around us. Through all of that hustle, Nancy Whitenack's Hi Line haven remains the standard for well-selected and collectable Dallas art. She has chosen a stable of talents with unique perspectives who are willing to extend the tangents of where existing work is already pointed. Nobody shown at Conduit is content to simply fill in the grid, and that's a tribute to the caliber of the space and its leadership. There's also a balance there, an energy that teeters between the established, repped works in the main showrooms and the more experimental, budding and often very strange works offered in the Project Room, curated by Conduit's assistant director Danette Dufilho. That equilibrium is what makes Conduit a starting — and often also an ending point — for any gallery night. It's also refreshing proof that an exceptional retail art space can be successful while still taking chances.

"How To Eat Your Watermelon finds him back at his confrontational best. His paintings are giant Jenga puzzles daring you to take out one last block, poised at any moment to tumble into uncomfortable corridors where race, masculinity, past, and present meet."
Stpehen Lapthisophon at the Dallas Museum of Art
Aug 14, 2013
In his first U.S. museum solo show, Dallas-based artist Stephen Lapthisophon investigates how language and mark-making are linked to the formation of self-identity. For Stephen Lapthisophon: Concentrations 56, the artist will create a series of tableaus incorporating anachronistic objects with more recent works on paper. The gallery will feature architectural elements inspired by his studio space: exposed wood beams and drywall create a visual layering of space and materials. The DMA’s Concentrations series began in 1981 and presents project-based solo exhibitions by international emerging artists.
