Annabel Daou

Annabel Daou is a biting provocateur, though you possibly wouldn't notice it right away. Her work is layered with language, not hidden, but not loud in the way one might consider "message art". In punch the clock, spin the bottle, rule the world, inscriptions crawl like ants along thin strips of document repair tape, crossing a larger constellation of red, black and white paper claws. In the wire frame sculpture touch Me, Daou camouflages declarative statements along the surface of the amphora shape, like "damage me", "paint me", and "discover me". These, among others, display Daou's desire to communicate with language as a symbol.
