Beneath the Skies
"What is that feeling when you're driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing?—it’s the too-huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-by. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.”
Jack Kerouac, On the Road
Johnny Robertson’s newest paintings are small-scale and intimate images of friends and family sourced from family photo albums that span decades. Veiled within layers of gestural oil paint, the images in the works blur and break down, as in a memory, making the subjects and landmarks universal.
