Jack Pine Savage

Conduit Gallery is honored to announce Jack Pine Savage, a group exhibition celebrating the can-do toughness brought about by the winter months and an affinity for freshly cut wood.

Inspired by the 2018 painting Jack Pine Savage, by Minnesota based artist, Justin Quinn, the term Jack Pine Savage is a northern idiom born in the early logging days when trees, specifically the Jack Pine, were felled by hand in the winter months. In order to gain access to the trees, over time the loggers would move further and further into the forest and into isolation where the cold reclusion produced a special breed of character. Character traits often associated with the Jack Pine Savages include; mental and physical toughness, resilience, perseverance, self-sufficiency and wicked sharp culinary skills.

Artists include Michael F. Blair, J.C. Fontanive, Christopher Gee, Justin Quinn, Lance Letscher, and Margaret Meehan.
