Memento Mori

Carrie Marill

Carrie Marill's disarming gouache on paper drawings represent a variety of approaches to the curiosities of urban life in the context of the natural world. For the small scale drawings in Memento Mori, Marill evokes the Italian definition as a symbolic or artistic representation of the inevitability of death. The Carrie Marill version is an artistic representation of feeling so full of the happenings of life that it revolts and
all comes back out again. The subjects in the drawings, hippos, foxes, penguins, and like appear to explode into floral arrangements and object references to modernist masterworks. The drawings commemorate the artists loves, losses, hates, and likes.
