Moments Notcied

Gabe Langholtz

Conduit Gallery is honored to announce our first exhibition of work by Austin-based painter Gabe Langholtz.

After a twenty-year career in music making, Langholtz turned to painting for a new creative expression. His initial exploration of abstraction soon fell the same way of music. After a hiatus, he turned to narrative compositions. In the tradition of folk art, Langholtz routinely employs the use of mundane cultural objects and activities to establish a contemporary narrative. He draws on humor, parody, and pastiche as tools for social commentary, enabling a truer connection with his subject matter. Stylistically he focusses on color relations, pattern making, form and line, with a heavy emphasis on the two-dimensional surface of the canvas. As a self-taught painter, Langholtz has leant on the work of Mary Fedden, Philip Guston, Agnes Martin and Gary Bunt to inform his distinctive style.

Langholtz’s work has been featured in New American Paintings and Create! Magazine, and exhibited nationally at Hashimoto Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY, BravinLee Programs, New York, NY, Bowery Gallery, New York, NY, and The Painting Center, New York, NY.
