Spelling Lesson
Stephen Lapthisophon
Known for employing text and language in his work, Stephen Lapthisophon begins Spelling Lesson playfully engaging a variety of media in an attempt to confound the idea of “signature style” while also addressing the literal “hand-work” signature. The exhibition will include drawing, painting, photography, prints and installation as well as a book of collected writings based on an essay by philosopher and sociologist Walter Benjamin, “WRITING ART CINEMA 1988 2010”published by Green Lantern Press.
Stephen Lapthisophon studied Comparative Literature and Theory at Northwestern University and received an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He spent the next thirty years living and working in the Chicago area. In August of 2007, he relocated to Dallas after spending a residency at the University of Texas at Dallas Artist in Residence program.
