Views and Landscapes

Reinhard Ziegler

These landscape images, with their visual chaos and elegant filigree, use faithful representation as well as abstraction to point toward a world within. The paintings, drawings and photographs are intended as “interior landscapes” which find their meaning within the viewer, more than the view. As a longtime maker of landscape images, Reinhard Ziegler approached the works in Views and Landscapes suspicious of the traditional “ideal” viewpoint of landscape in art and opted for the psychological connections that can be accessed through works devoid of color, myriad branches devoid of leaves and a picture plane devoid of horizon.

A native of Germany, Reinhard Ziegler moved to Dallas in 1963, receiving his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University in 1974, and later teaching photography at Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. He holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa Visual Scholars Program, and also served on the faculty of the University of Iowa. He has exhibited through out the country and is included in several corporate collections including; Accenture, Delta Airlines, Texas Instruments and the Rosewood Corporation.
