Conduit Gallery 40th Anniversary Group Exhibition: Guest Artists Curated by Conduit Gallery Artists
Conduit at 40: Forte! is a special exhibition featuring works by 27 guest artists. Each guest artist has been selected by one of Conduit’s artists who were tasked with curating a show in honor of the gallery’s founding.
“From day one, my priority has been building long-term relationships with artists and introducing them to new audiences,” said Nancy Whitenack, founder and owner. “There is so much wonderful work out there. As creators, our artists have a distinctly keen awareness and appreciation of what makes good art. Turning over curatorial control to our artists felt like an appropriate way to celebrate this important milestone.”
Conduit Gallery Director Danette Dufilho has successfully focused on discovering new talent for the last 24 years. “Conduit would not be what it is today without our incredible artists,” she said. “This exhibition is an example of the level of trust we have in them and their ideas. The spirit of collaboration in this show is a testament to what we always strive to be within the Dallas community.”
From its beginnings in Deep Ellum in 1984 to its location in the Dallas Design District today, Conduit has always been just that – a connector between artists and the public. Works by the gallery’s artists have been acquired by numerous museums and private collectors in Dallas and across the country. The gallery represents established mid‐career artists and young, new talent. The program includes three exhibitions which run concurrently, including the Project Room, committed to showing works by artists not represented, often experimental or small scale in scope. Exhibitions include painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, and video. Since relocating to Hi Line Drive in 2002, Conduit Gallery has led the way to what is becoming a vibrant, energetic gallery sector in the Dallas Design District. “Artists are more than creators; they are storytellers whose work reflects the many varied experiences of our concurrent existence” said Whitenack. “The artists I have had the pleasure of representing over the past forty years have collectively shown me the power of art.”
