New Drawings
Stephen Lapthisophon
Coinciding with the culmination of Stephen Lapthisophon’s four month installation project at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Toccare (Non) Toccare, Conduit Gallery is pleased to announce a small focus exhibition of works on paper created by Lapthisophon during the same time period.
The mixed media works on paper combine text and letterforms to create poetic improvisations that capture and linger in fleeting moments. Seized from the artist’s own studio, found materials such as newspapers, leaves and string diffuse into layers of house paint, ink and gesso. Continually interested in the influence of the Arte Povera artists of the mid 20th Century, Lapthisophon engages in a methodology guided by ephemerality, history and the poetry of the spaces in between formal art-making approaches.
Stephen Lapthisophon earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1979.
