New Paintings

Kirk Hayes

Conduit Gallery is excited to announce its upcoming move to a new space in January 2026. After 25 years on Hi Line Dr., Conduit Gallery is relocating to 1845 E Levee Street, Suite 100 in the Dallas Design District, next door to Cris Worley Fine Arts. The first opening in the new gallery space will feature a much-anticipated solo exhibition of new paintings by Kirk Hayes, alongside a group exhibition by gallery artists. The inaugural exhibition will open on Saturday, January 10, 5 - 7PM.

In his latest exhibition, Kirk Hayes presents a new series of exquisite trompe l'oeil paintings. As a master of illusions, what may initially appear as a crudely assembled collage becomes vastly complex upon further investigation. A closer look reveals that those pieces of overlapping masking tape and exposed plywood are in fact meticulously rendered in oil and enamel paint. Hayes flawlessly captures every imperfection with such great attention to detail that viewers may be tempted to run their fingers over each work just to convince their own eyes of what they are seeing.

Kirk Hayes (b. 1958) is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Fort Worth, TX. He has exhibited with Conduit Gallery since 1997. His work has been featured at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park, KS; the Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth, TX; and the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX. Notable public collections include the Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, TX.

Since Nancy Whitenack first opened Conduit Gallery in Deep Ellum in 1984, the gallery has evolved through several locations, including its trailblazing 2002 move to the Dallas Design District, which inspired many other contemporary art galleries to follow suit. Throughout its history, Conduit Gallery has committed to exhibiting work by emerging talents and nationally recognized career artists, focusing on artists working in Texas through a dynamic exhibition program that fosters critical conversations about contemporary art.
