Wordless Communication
Carrie Marill
Conduit Gallery is honored to announce the opening of, Wordless Communication, the seventh solo exhibition of new works by Phoenix based artist Carrie Marill.
The works in Wordless Communication are a grouping of twenty 12 by 9 inch gouache works on paper, first seen as murals Marill created in 2018 for a boutique hotel in Corsica, France. In this body of work, pairings of figures help each other do hamstring stretches and perform trust exercises; their heads tied in cosmic exchanges, or blooming into bouquets of wildflowers. Each couple illustrates various metaphors for human connection, and achievement. Notes Marill of the work, “Verbal, physical, emotional and subconscious communication dictate our path – how open or closed we are [and how] communication is the key to our success or the spear in our demise. I implemented a visual language of bodies, shapes, colors and the absence of those same characteristics. I wanted to leave the viewer with curiosity and self-reflection.” In addition to the small scale works on paper, Marill will paint a mural on the gallery wall depicting one of the Wordless Communication images.
Throughout her career Carrie Marill has worked with paint media on paper with precise detailed imagery that distill a wide range of topics related to modern life both universal and personal. Bodies of work have included; animal and land conservation, String Theory, items in the auctioned off estate of the Duke of Windsor, Persian miniatures and modern art history. With each series Marill works on, she celebrates the beauty in the intricacies of our human endeavors.
