Rosalyn Bodycomb

Bodycomb's paintings and depictions of metro stations, dreamy waterscapes, and flights of birds, showcase the artists interest in the immediacy of the moment. Many of her compositions are overseeing their subjects from a skewed vantage point, a cinematic Dutch angle. These images are her photographs, printed to fact in the determined brushtrokes of Bodycomb's near-photorealistic style. The feeling is that the camera is hanging limply on a rig, swinging over a view of the city, and we're glimpsing a crisp frame from a random scene. Bodycomb is curious about the relativity of the world, and how these individual events could only happen where they are in the way they did. A butcher looks accusingly onto the viewer, a metro station silently tilts to one side. The action is relatively banal, or unagitated. But the color, the light from a streetlight, is real.

Rosalyn Bodycomb earned an M.F.A. from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX. She received a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Award in 2005, a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 2007, and a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 2009. Her work is in the Permanent Collection of the Dallas Museum of Art and many private collections across the United States. Bodycomb lives and works outside of Yosemite Valley, California.
