Album of the Conqueror

Erin Curtis

Album of the Conqueror features a collection of images in the form of paintings and drawings that span continents and condense timelines. With an interest in anthropology and an eye toward architecture and decoration, Curtis borrows from 15th century textiles from Uzbekistan, American parking garages, the overnight buildings of China’s ‘instant cities’ and the mundane suburban landscapes of anywhere. The works are intensely handmade and united in their dense weavings of color. Their architecture sways and breaks down into flatness while textile-derived patterns seem to structuralize, solidify and break apart.
