The Sea, Eventually
Jules Buck Jones
Conduit Gallery is pleased to present The Sea, Eventually, Jules Buck Jones’ third solo exhibition with the gallery.
In The Sea, Eventually, Jules Buck Jones presents a new body of work expanding on the artist’s interests in narratives, relationships, parallels and disparities found in nature. Pivoting between celebratory and mournful, Jones’ work depicts fleeting moments, strange conjunctions, and conflated timescales through abstracted flora and fauna and dense mark making. Jones’ heavy stylization of his imagery is captured in water media on paper, exaggerated by ornately cut frames as well as painted wood cut outs. Both approaches blur the edges of where the work begins and ends.
The new work hints at the fragility of Earth’s natural balance, the pain and sorrow surrounding loss, beauty in the everyday, and scenes of what may occur when no one is looking.
Jules Buck Jones earned his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA in 2005 and an MFA in Painting at the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX in 2008. He is a founding member of the non-profit collective MASS Gallery and the art / science collective Animal Facts Club, both based in Austin TX. Jones has been accepted and invited to art residencies in Maine, New York, Tennessee, Vermont, the Florida Everglades and Barcelona.
